Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Having learned about the Dragonrend shout from Esbern, the Dragonborn then returns to High Hrothgar to consult with the Greybeards.

Talk to Arngeir[edit | edit source]

Once there, Arngeir explains that the only individual who knows of this shout is the leader of the Greybeards, Paarthurnax and that he resides alone atop the Throat of the World. Additionally, this location is only accessible via a path which is fraught with impenetrable storms. The only way through is to use a new shout called "Clear Skies". All three words of the shout can and should be learned.

Learn the "Clear Skies" Shout[edit | edit source]

The Greybeards eventually agree to teach the Dragonborn this new shout.

Use the "Clear Skies" Shout to open the path[edit | edit source]

The Dragonborn then uses the shout to be able to enter the path to the top of the Throat of the World. Periodically, the shout must be used again to continue until the summit is reached.

Talk to Paarthurnax[edit | edit source]

Once at the summit, the Dragonborn sees a huge white dragon, who as it happens, is Paarthurnax.

Learn the Word of Power from Paarthurnax[edit | edit source]

After some discussion, Paarthunax offers to teach the Dragonborn some words of power (up to three) for the Fire Breath shout.

Use your "Fire Breath" Shout on Paarthurnax[edit | edit source]

Having learned the words of power, the Dragonborn must demonstrate his or her knowledge to the dragon.

Talk to Paarthurnax[edit | edit source]

Once Paarthurnax is satisfied, he imparts some more information about Alduin.
