Diseases are conditions which weaken your character and often make it more difficult to do things. Creatures, spells, and traps can infect you with diseases. Diseases have a range of debilitating effects that range from light to severe. Open the Magic menu and check the Active Effects list to see which diseases you are infected with and what their effects are.

To cure yourself, drink a Potion of Cure Disease, or seek healing at a temple or by praying at any altar/shrine to the Divines. The effects of diseases are cumulative, so they will add up over time if left untreated.

Exceptions include Lycanthropy and Sanguinare Vampiris which bring benefits along with disadvantages. Lycanthropy cannot be cured with a potion or at altars but by performing a ritual which involves the head of Glenmoril Witch, while Sanguinare Vampiris can only be cured during the first three days after infection. It can also be cured by contracting Lycanthropy.
