Walkthrough[edit | edit source]
The Dragonborn receives this quest as part of the contract from Amaund Motierre. As Astrid explains, the objective is to kill the first cousin of the Emperor, Vittoria Vici, during her wedding ceremony, and for an added bonus, to kill her as she is addressing her guests.
The Emperor recently discontinued a visit to Skyrim for security reasons, but the assassination of his cousin would force the Emperor to make an appearance. And that is what Amaund Motierre is counting on.
As usual, it is a good idea to talk to the other members of the Dark Brotherhood before embarking on the mission:
- In particular Gabriella will point out that an archer will have a clear shot from a parapet (just to the north-west of the main temple gate) opposite of the balcony the bride will address the crowd from. Gabriella also left some goodies there: Firiniel's End a bow, five Elven Arrows and an Elixir of True Shot.
- Babette on the other hand directs the Dragonborn's attention to an old statue, conveniently situated above the balcony the bride will step onto. A small push should crush the bride, almost making it look like an accident.
Kill Vittoria Vici[edit | edit source]
The wedding takes places in Solitude near the Temple of the Divines. At the wedding reception of Amaund Motierre an Imperial and Asgeir Snow-Shod a Stormcloak are centrally seated under a balcony. The bride regularly addresses the guests from said balcony, so there is enough time to scout the area and plan ahead before acting.
To receive the bonus the Dragonborn will need to kill the target while she is talking on that balcony. There are several ways to go about the assassination:
- Alas pushing down the statue while up on the castles ring wall only partially works. It is possible to get away quickly (sneaking), without being noticed (no bounty on the Dragonborn's head) by making for the southern gate, but due to a bug in the game this does not trigger the bonus payment, even though the bride will have been addressing the guests.
- Make it to the parapet instead, sneak, aim for the bride while she it talking on the balcony, shoot, then immediately fall back towards the wall, maybe also use a potion of invisibility. This should satisfy the requirements for the bonus, avoid any bounty on the Dragonborn's head, and should keep the Dragonborn unnoticed. It is important to achieve a one-shot-kill, so drinking the Elixir of True Shot can help. Invisible, steal away from the fighting, and fast travel out of the city as soon as that is possible.
Tip: It is not recommended to have a follower in tow, since they will immediately attack the guests when the pandemonium ensues, possibly adding a quite unwanted bounty on the Dragonborn's head.
It is possible to sneak to the bride's location on the balcony and loot a few unique items: Vittoria's Wedding Band, Wedding Wreath, Wedding Sandals and Wedding Dress. But this is not necessary or good for anything, other than collecting a few sinister mementos.
Note: Returning at a later time, when things have cooled down in Solitude, the body will no longer be on the balcony.
Report back to Astrid[edit | edit source]
After having escaped Solitude, return to the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary and report to Astrid. She will congratulate the Dragonborn with a special power: Summon Spectral Assassin. And should the requirements for the added bonus have been met an additional tidy sum of cold hard will be handed over.
Now, after gaining Emperor's attention, forcing him to visit Skyrim, the next part of Amaund Motierre's plan calls for the weakening of the security surrounding Emperor's visit. For the specifics Astrid sends the Dragonborn to Gabriella.
