Beirand is the blacksmith in Solitude where he runs the smithy with his assistant Heimvar. He is married to Sayma and they have a son, Kayd.
Beirand is presently very busy forging weapons and armour for the Legion. In the Civil War he is not necessarily on the side of the Empire, but on the side of Solitude and its Jarl. His wife Sayma certainly would not want him to go into battle.

At the beginning of The Jagged Crown, General Tullius directs the Dragonborn to Beirand to pick up a free Imperial armour set. This comes in three versions: light, medium and heavy.
